Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (085779)

Architettura dei Calcolatori e Sistemi Operativi is a 10-ECTS core course of the B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (Ingegneria Informatica), also offered in the M.Sc. in Geoinformatics Engineering. It gives students a complete picture of how a computer works, from hardware to the operating system:

• machine instructions, assembly and linking, and translation of C programs to RISC-V assembly
• digital logic, combinational and sequential circuits, registers and memory
• processor and memory microarchitecture, pipelining, and I/O and interrupt mechanisms
• concurrent programming with threads, mutual exclusion, and synchronization on Linux
• operating system internals: kernel, scheduler, virtual memory, file system, and I/O devices
